In Islam, seeking forgiveness from Allah is one of the most important acts of worship. The phrase “Astaghfirullah” meaning, ‘I seek forgiveness from Allah’, holds immense spiritual benefits. This simple yet powerful supplication cleanses the heart, removes sins, and invites blessings into a believer's life. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) frequently recited istighfar (seeking for forgiveness), even though he was sinless, demonstrating its significance for all Muslims.
Making “Astaghfirullah” a daily habit can transform a person's life by bringing peace , increasing sustenance, and strengthening faith. The Quran and Hadith emphasize the importance of repentance, assuring that Allah's mercy is vast and He forgives those who sincerely turn to him. In this post, we will explore the benefits of reciting “Astaghfirullah” daily and how it can positively impact our spiritual and worldly life.
Have you ever heard about the miracles that Istighfar brings into people’s lives?
I’ve come across many articles and personal stories where people share how consistently reciting Istighfar opened doors of blessings for them—how they found jobs, overcame hardships, or even conceived after years of waiting, just by making Istighfar a part of their daily routine.
Let me tell you a true story — one that beautifully shows how Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) can bring miracles into our lives.
There was a sister who had been trying to conceive for over six years. She and her husband visited countless doctors, tried multiple treatments, and made endless duas — but nothing seemed to work. She fell into deep sadness, especially when she saw others around her getting pregnant easily.
One day, while scrolling through Islamic reminders, she came across a simple piece of advice:
“Recite Istighfar in abundance. Allah ﷻ says He will increase you in children, wealth, and blessings.” (Based on Surah Nuh, 10-12)
Desperate and hopeful, she made a commitment to say “Astaghfirullah” at least 1000 times a day. No long duas, no complaints — just pure repentance and returning to Allah ﷻ.
Weeks passed. She felt a strange peace in her heart. Her tawakkul grew stronger. And then... one month later — she missed her period. The test was positive. Allah ﷻ had opened the door of mercy.
She later wrote:
“Istighfar didn’t just give me a baby. It healed my heart, increased my faith, and brought me closer to Allah ﷻ in a way nothing else had.”
Let Me Tell You Another True Story — About a Brother Who Couldn’t Find a Job 🌟
There was a young man who had been unemployed for almost two years. He had a degree, skills, and experience — but no matter how many applications he sent or interviews he gave, nothing worked out. Rejections came one after the other. He felt broken, tired, and even began to doubt himself.
One day, while listening to a scholar online, he heard something that struck him deeply:
“If doors aren’t opening for you, open the door of Istighfar. Allah ﷻ Himself promises that He will provide sustenance to those who seek His forgiveness.”
That day, he made a decision: “If nothing else is working, let me try turning to Allah ﷻ fully.”
He began reciting “Astaghfirullah” 300–500 times a day, sometimes more, sometimes less — but consistently, every single day. No expectations, just surrender.
Within a few weeks, out of nowhere, he received a call from a company he had applied to months ago — they were offering him a job, and not just any job… it was better than anything he had dreamed of. Higher salary, better role, and a peaceful work environment.
He later said:
“It wasn’t just a job — it was a reminder that when the world says no, Allah ﷻ can still say yes. And Istighfar was the key that unlocked His mercy.”
🌿 How Many Times Should You Say Istighfar Daily?
There is no fixed number in Islam for how many times you should say Astaghfirullah (I seek forgiveness from Allah ﷻ) each day — but the more you say it, the more peace and blessings you’ll feel in your life. It’s not about the number; it’s about the heart behind it.
Still, to build a habit, having a daily goal can help:
🌸 Begin with a small, sincere goal:
- Start with 100 times a day — easy to do in 5–10 minutes.
- Once it becomes part of your routine, increase to 300, then 500, and gradually to 1000.
- Some people even say it throughout the day, like breathing — silently on their tongue while cooking, walking, or resting.
🕊️ Why so many times?
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and repent to Him more than seventy times a day.” 📘 Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 6307
Imagine how much more we are in need of forgiveness and mercy.
🌤️ Istighfar is more than just words…
It’s a soft whisper to Allah ﷻ saying:
"Ya Allah, I need You. Forgive me, guide me, open my doors."
You can say it at any time —
✨ After Salah
✨ Before sleeping
✨ While waiting, walking, or cooking
✨ Or in moments of anxiety, sadness, or gratitude
So, whether you are seeking peace in your heart, a solution to your problems, a child, a job, or simply a closer connection with Allah ﷻ — Istighfar is one of the most powerful and gentle keys you can hold. It doesn't require a perfect place, a perfect time, or even perfect words — just a sincere heart that turns back to its Rabb. When you make Astaghfirullah a habit, you’ll notice subtle changes: your stress softens, your du'as feel heard, and the doors that once felt tightly shut begin to open, quietly and mercifully. Never underestimate the power of seeking forgiveness — it is not just a means of wiping away sins, but a secret path to barakah, healing, and miracles that you never saw coming. 🌸
