The Power of Azkar - Importance of Morning and Evening Azkar in Muslim's Life

In our fast-paced, modern world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Anxiety whispers in our ears, stress tightens our shoulders, and a sense of emptiness can sometimes creep into our hearts, even amidst our daily routines. We often search for solutions in self-help books, meditation apps, or other external tools. But what if the most powerful tool for healing, peace, and spiritual strength was already within your reach, prescribed by your Creator over 1400 years ago?

This tool is Azkar (also spelled Adhkar). The word comes from the Arabic root Zikr, which means "to remember," "to mention," and "to remind." In Islamic terms, Azkar are the prescribed remembrances of Allah—the prayers, supplications, and phrases we recite throughout the day.

Many of us know Azkar as the short prayers we say after Salah. We might recite them out of habit, sometimes without feeling their weight. But the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reveal that Azkar are not just rituals; they are a profound spiritual technology designed to transform our inner world, protect us from harm, and connect us directly to the source of all peace.

                                                            The Power of Astagfirullah

This post is an invitation to look at these beautiful remembrances with fresh eyes. We will explore the incredible power they hold and how making them a conscious, daily practice can be the key to a life filled with tranquility, purpose, and divine light.

Islam teaches us that constant remembrance of Allah (Azkar) is one of the most powerful way to strengthen faith, find peace, and protect ourselves from harm.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not is like the example of the living and the dead.” (Bukhari)

This means that without Azkar, our hearts become spiritually lifeless, but with it, we stay connected to Allah's mercy and guidance.

What is Azkar?

“Azkar are the supplications, prayers, and words of remembrance taught in the Quran and Sunnah."

Azkar are the threads that weave the consciousness of Allah into the fabric of our daily lives. They are not limited to the prayers after Salah.

They include:

  • Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah) - Glorifying Allah
  • Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah) - Praising Allah
  • Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) - Declaring Allah's greatness
  • Istigfar (Astagfirullah) - Seeking Forgiveness
  • Dua (Supplication) - Asking Allah for help

Azkar can be recited anytime, anywhere- while walking, working, before sleeping, or even during difficulity.

Why is Azkar so Important?

A. Allah Commands us to Remember Him

Allah says in the Quran:

“O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.” (33:41)

The more we remember Allah, the closer we get to him.

B. Azkar Purifies the Heart

Just as water cleanses the body, Azkar cleanses the heart from sins, doubts, and negativity.

C. Protection from Shaytan and Evil

Shaytan's mission is to mislead us, but Azkar acts as a shield. The Prophet (PBUH) taught:

“Whoever says 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah...' (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone...) 100 times, it will be a protection from Shaytan for that day.” (Bukhari)

D. Bring Barakah (Blessings) in Life

Azkar attracts Allah's mercy and blessings in:

  • Health - Healing through Quranic Duas
  • Rizq - Increases provision
  • Family and Home - Brings peace and harmony

E. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Science proves that repetitive prayer and meditation calm the mind. The Quran says:

“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (13:28)

Reciting "La illaha illa Anta , Subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin" (21:87) during distress brings relief.
